#1: The Japanese Macaque
The Japanese Macaque (Macaca fuscata) is the most northern-living primate (other than humans) and they live in areas where snow covers the ground most of the year. They have red faces, brown fur, and stubby little tails. Macaques are fantastic swimmers and some have been reported to swim over half a kilometer.
Japanese macaques are a highly intelligent and social species and are known for their unusual behaviors, such as bathing together in hot springs and rolling snowballs for fun.
One of the reasons the Japanese macaque would be a perfect Pokemon is the opportunity to represent the unused (prior to Volcanion) Water/Fire and Ice/Fire types.
It could easily be Ice-type because of it’s habitat (it’s also known as the snow monkey). It would be suited just as well for a Water type, because the macaques are known to bathe in hot springs. The Fire type also fits because of the hot springs and the fact that their faces are bright red.
